East Neighbourhood Partnership poetry competition and open mic

Shindigs Scottish Artspace are holding an open mic poetry reading event on Wednesday 23 November in Craigmillar Library as part of Book Week Scotland 2016.

They have partnered with the Federation of Writers (Scotland) and the Scottish Book Trust for the event at Craigmillar Library taking place between 5.30pm until 7.30pm. You can bring along a poem between these hours and take part in the open mic.

A prize winning and open mic event by Shindigs Scottish Artspace in association with the Federation of Writers (Scotland) will also take place on World Community Arts Day on Friday 17 February 2017 for the best poems in the East Neighbourhood Partnership areas. You can either live, volunteer, have a connection to or work in the East Neighbourhood Partnership areas to apply. You can submit your poem from now until the end of Book Week Scotland at midnight on the 27 November 2016. Submission is free and open to both published and unpublished writers and spoken word poets. It is also possible to send in a 3 minute Film Poem for the spoken word category.

You can write your poem in any style or any subject about your neighbourhood with a maximum of 40 lines. Please submit your poem on a word document with a separate page listing your name and age. Age categories are from 8-12, 13-19 and 20+. These can be submitted by emailing rosefraserritchie@yahoo.co.uk, they will confirm receipt of your poem.

Shindigs Scottish Artspace are delighted that respected author and Federation of Writers (Scotland) member, A. C. Clarke has kindly agreed to be their Judge. They are also very delighted to announce that award winning writer Dr. Claire Askew, The Reading Champion based at Craigmillar Library, has agreed to be a Judge.

Shindigs Scottish Artspace received an award from the Neighbourhood Partnership’s You Decide community grants and would like to thank everyone who voted for them at the You Decide events in Portobello Town Hall and the local youth event in Craigmillar Library. They would also like to thank their partners, the Scottish Book Trust.
