Investing in your future

The City of Edinburgh Council are inviting their tenants to visit them in a drop in on Monday 28 November 2016 at the East Neighbourhood Office and have their say on how their rent money should be spent.

The drop in which is taking place from 10am until 12noon and is part of the Council’s annual rent consultation. This year they are asking for their tenants views on how their rent money can be invested in services to help tenants save money.

Tenants informed the Council in the rent consultation last year that the key priorities for the Council should be to build more homes, make existing properties cheaper to run and provide other services to help tenants reduce their costs. In response the Council has agreed a five year plan to reduce living costs and build 8,000 new homes over the next 10 years and would like to know your views on this.

The plan, shown below, aims to implement services such as a tenant discount scheme and low cost energy to reduce tenants living costs by 2020. The consultation asks for your views on the plan and if there is anything else that they could introduce to help you reduce your costs.postcardpic

In order to deliver these changes by 2020 the Council says that their rents will have to increase by roughly £2 extra per week. However the Council would like to know your views on this, if tenants want these new services to be introduced earlier then you can agree to speed up the plan by paying a bit more or opt to slow down the plan if you would prefer a smaller rent increase.

The consultation is open until Wednesday 30 November 2016 and can be found here. All entries will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a high street shopping voucher worth £100.
