Volunteer this Christmas with Crisis

Crisis at Christmas is returning to Edinburgh on Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2016 and they need committed, passionate volunteers to make it happen.

There are a range of roles available including welcoming guests, working in the kitchen, entertaining, befriending, providing services and helping out as a ‘general volunteer’.

They say that everyone has skills and experience to contribute, and they are especially keen to recruit chefs, kitchen assistants, performers and workshop leaders to make Crisis at Christmas the best it can be.

They will be open to guests on Christmas day and Boxing day 8am-8pm, in the Southside Community Centre. Over the Christmas period they hope to provide 300 guests with food, services, activities and companionship and they cannot do it without you.

Applications are now open so please read the role descriptions and register below to take part in this exciting opportunity. The minimum age to volunteer for most roles is 18 years.

They are also accepting gifts in kind. Please email the Christmas team ccedinburgh@crisis.org.uk to see how you can help!

Key Volunteers manage a team of volunteers in a specific area of the event. As a Shift Leader or Key Volunteer, you will need to brief and de-brief your team of volunteers at the beginning and end of their shift. You will delegate tasks and oversee the management of the event in your selected area of the venue.

Strong leaderships skills are needed for this role, and confidence in delegating tasks, making decisions and managing people. You need to be able to remain calm in a busy environment. Key Volunteers need to be 21 years or more and need to commit to a minimum of two shifts.

General Volunteers

Our team of general volunteers are absolutely essential to the smooth running of Christmas. You will be engaged in a variety of tasks from welcoming our guests at the door, helping run activities in the social area, playing games and chatting with guests, help prepare and tidy up the venue, encouraging guests to join in with workshops, cleaning duties, helping in the Volunteers’ Hub, handing out Christmas presents, serving hot drinks and much more! No experience necessary, just a willingness to muck in and make a difference this Christmas.

Services Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers with specific skills to provide a wide range of services to leave our guests feeling happy and healthy.

We are looking for trained hairdressers, therapists, chefs, befrienders, podiatrists, advisors and people to do massage.

Some volunteers will need specific qualifications while others will just need plenty of enthusiasm and a smile!

Activities and Entertainment

Do you have a talent for leading workshops? Or perhaps you are a local artist who would love to help create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on Christmas Day?

We are looking for creative and experienced people to provide our guests with fun and engaging activities and entertainment to inspire them to take up opportunities in the future.
