Macmillan at Craigmillar Library

New Cancer Information and Support Service for Edinburgh Libraries

In the autumn of 2016, Edinburgh Libraries will be offering a Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service within Craigmillar Library.

This is a free service staffed by trained volunteers and will provide information, support and signposting for people affected by cancer.

The service will offer a listening ear, helping people who have been affected by cancer in Edinburgh. As well as listening to a person affected by cancer, there will be a number of options for further support that such as counselling or mindfulness (provided by Cancer Support Scotland) or to other Macmillan funded programmes such as Move More, Welfare Rights, or Vocational Rehabilitation.

The service will also stock a wide range of Macmillan information materials and the library service will offer an enhanced range of books to assist people affected by cancer. This access to information will be available throughout the wider library network. Service points will be equipped with on line access enabling the volunteers to search for and order information if it is not readily available.

Check out the library web site or Twitter feed (@MacmillanEdLib) for more details of service times and days.

We are also recruiting volunteers for this new service. If you have good listening skills and an interest in helping people this could be for you. Full training is given and expenses are payable.
