Community Clean up’s for Bingham & Magdalene needs you!

Community Renewal are currently in the process of organising two community clean up events for both Magdalene and Bingham, as part of an ongoing project which has only just started to take roots, from recent door knocking activities held in both communities. Utilising the energies of staff from Community Renewal, residents from the areas, and Sheila McWhirter, who has been a key element of the energy being used to try and galvanise the communities, resident’s and other organisations based in and around Bingham and Magdalene.

Following early door knocking exercises, which meant chapping on as many doors as possible in both areas a common theme appeared, which was the need to get local people of all ages to take ownership and responsibility for cleaning up their communities, to make them cleaner, fresher and nicer environments to be a part of.

To date Sheila has walked her feet off, talking to locals as well as leaflet dropping in the two areas to draw attention to the clean ups.

If you can help, why not bring some friends, relatives, the dog! in fact anyone you know, who would be willing to help out on either or both dates!!

Edinburgh Council will be on hand with help from the Park Rangers and a large cage will be provided for all rubbish collected.  As well as this, if you felt that being out and about isn’t your thing, but wanted to dispose of anything on the day, a swap shop event will also be taking part in the community centres, so get clearing out those wardrobes and cupboards, bring stuff along, if you don’t love it anymore, it may find a new home with someone else who does.

All outdoor clean up kits will be provided on the day and the British Heart Foundation will come along and take away anything that is left that can be distributed to their charity shops.

The clean up dates are as follows –

Bingham –  Friday 15th April 2016, (meet at Bingham community centre) 10 am until 3 pm, with refreshments and lunch provided.

Magdalene –  Friday 22nd April 2016, (meet at Magdalene community centre) 10 am until 3 pm with refreshments and lunch provided.
