Craigmillar Literacy Trust and partners are hosting the Craigmillar Book Festival from Monday 16 to Saturday 28 November 2015.

The 19th Craigmillar Book Festival will run for two weeks beginning on 16th November and over 700 children are expected to take part.

Our Stories is the theme of the festival and everyone will get a chance to create their own stories and illustrations, inspired by the great line-up of visiting authors and illustrators.

This year’s writers and storytellers include best-selling teen novelist Cathy MacPhail; picture book authors Chae Strathie and Natalie Russell; and storytellers Heather Henderson, Mrs Mash and Mara Menzies.

The Festival’s launch event on Monday 16th November, features Nick Sharratt, acclaimed illustrator and writer of a host of bestselling books for all ages, whose interactive event is for a hundred children from Niddrie Mill, St Francis, Newcraighall and Castleview Primaries and nursery children from Moffat Early Years Centre.

This year’s festival, hosted by Craigmillar Literacy Trust and partners, ties in with Book Week Scotland 2015, bringing the excitement of the national celebrations to people across Craigmillar with a ‘make your own mini-comic’ workshop by Metaphrog, creators of The Red Shoes and the award winning Louis series of graphic novels.

This drop in event for children aged 8+ and their families will be at Craigmillar Library at 2pm on Saturday 28th November.

Craigmillar Library again plays host as this year’s lead venue for the busy festival programme, alongside events in schools and early years centres across Craigmillar.

Also, in a first for the Book Festival, Craigmillar Castle will be the venue for two atmospheric events with Vivian French, whose castle-based Tales of the Five Kingdoms will be all the more exciting for being experienced in our own real life castle.

For the youngest in the community, Craigmillar Books for Babies will be joining in the fun with a special session by storyteller Eric Brennan at Craigmillar Library on Saturday 28th November at 11am.

Brenda Rowan from Craigmillar Literacy Trust said “The Craigmillar Book Festival is an exciting chance to experience the fun and inspiration of reading, and this year’s festival will be the biggest for years with hundreds of Craigmillar children and teenagers meeting a host of celebrated Scottish writers and illustrators at 30 events in 7 local venues.”

Craigmillar Literacy Trust gratefully acknowledges all the funders, sponsors, partners and supporters who make the festival possible: Scottish Book Trust, The Big Lottery Fund, Dr David Summers Charitable Trust, Sir James Miller [Edinburgh] Charitable Trust, The Rosamunde Pilcher Charitable Trust, Historic Scotland, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Nairn’s Oatcakes, The Edinburgh Bookshop, Craigmillar Library and local schools and early years centres.
